Contract Technical Writer (Rogers, AR) Job # AR0718

ProEdit is seeking a contract technical writer in Rogers, AR (ZIP code: 72756). This is a full-time, onsite, 6-month contract position that has a strong possibility of being extended. The technical writer will be responsible for developing and updating safety maps and job safety analysis documentation in a manufacturing environment. The writer will perform research, interview machine operators in a live work environment, and rely on existing source material to create and update safety documents.
The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and be able to quickly pick up new concepts. The writer must be able to complete tasks with little supervision and have the ability to take initiative and be resourceful. Excellent communication skills and the proven ability to interview a diverse subject matter expert pool are essential.

Minimum Requirements:
  • 3–5 years of technical writing experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong manufacturing background and/or mechanical system knowledge
  • Understanding of OSHA Machine Guarding, Hazard Communication, and Control of Hazardous Energy (lockout/tagout) regulations
  • Experience maintaining and managing a document library (100+ documents preferred)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and develop creative solutions
  • Ability to provide relevant technical writing samples
Relevant Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience developing safety, electrical power and control, installation, and operations and maintenance procedure documentation
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs

NW Arkansas SOP Instructional Designers (6)

Writing Assistance, Inc. specializes in the placement of writers worldwide.

Our client is looking for a team of Instructional Designers to compare SOPs with existing training material.  It then needs to be determined if the material not in the SOPs should be included as supplemental training aids.  The aids may be diagrams, videos or brief guides.  They utilize Captivate, Illustrator and InDesign.  It will require the person be onsite most of the time at the beginning and then roll into as needed. Kick-off is slated for mid-April and completed by the end of October.

 Our client is looking for Several strong Technical Writers to help document the process and procedures associated with replacing the current Transportation Management system. Experience creating and documenting system operation and training materials will be required.

Currently replacing the legacy Transportation Management systems used by Corporate Traffic and Field Private Fleet users.  This is a project consisting of multiple iterations to replace current functionality within the VDS – Visual Dispatching System, TMS, and ARC systems.  The project also results in new or advanced functionality not available today, such as Exception Management

Grant/Proposal Writer (Temporary, July 2010)

Here is a brief overview of what we are looking for:

Writer(s) who can assist us in grant writing and proposal response preparation for the month of July, 2010.

The work will be primarily MSWord (2003 & 2007) development of long documents with Table of Content styled headings.

Processes and procedures are in place, so the work is primarily developing text, tables, simple graphics placements in text, and editing plus copy editing.

We need competent document handlers who will work under the direction of our project staff. 

We have a very short timeline for this work, so the sooner you can provide contacts for us, the better.

Potential candidates will work with our HR department for temporary staffing and compensation arrangements.

Job Description

The Technical Writer is responsible for creating end-user documentation, training materials and CBTs, and video tutorials for ABC's software applications. This individual will collaborate with programmers, product management, business analysts, and product implementation to gain an understanding of the product or system under development and determine the appropriate type of documentation needed. Much of the documentation produced is for the end-user audience, and will be in the form of online help files. This position requires advanced knowledge of technical and end-user documentation types, documentation tools, processes, software engineering methodologies, and software development lifecycles. You must have the motivation and ability to perform critical analysis about how users will interact with the software and turn those thoughts into detailed documents and tutorials. You must have comfort working with screen capture programs such as SnagIt and Camtasia. Basic programming knowledge is a plus. Work with the development team, business analyst, implementation team, and Product Owner to identify needed documentation and the best format for end-user education. Present the strategy for all technical and user documentation.

Required Skills

IT Technical Writer Qualifications: * This position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College, preferably in Technical Writing, English, Computer Science, User Experience, or a related field and a minimum 5 years of experience in the field of technical documentation, user education, or CBT / Video Tutorial production * Excellent organization, communication, and writing skills with passion for good design and strong attention to detail * Ability and desire to learn complex Web applications quickly * Outstanding analytical skills to interpret business requirements and use cases and provide technical and end-user documentation at a level easily understandable to non-technical users * Solid working knowledge of HTML * High proficiency in documentation tools such as RoboHelp * Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret technical data * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Basic skills including, but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions * Ability to problem-solve using deductive reasoning in a timely manner * Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a multi-tasking environment * Excellent troubleshooting skills * Make appropriate and effective use of team approach to problem solving
