2008 planning meeting Jan 26

Join us for our next STC Arkansas meeting Sat. January 26th at 11:00am, at UALR in Stabler Hall 501. (For directions, see the UALR Campus Map.) This will be a business meeting. Specifically, we will be interested in planning upcoming meetings. If you have ideas for upcoming meetings, please bring them or send them to the email list or Keith Dover.

We will also begin to arrange the upcoming elections. Tommy Trussell and Patrick Moore will handle that, but those of you interesting in running for the offices of chapter president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer may also be interested in the meeting to make contacts with current officers.

Information about upcoming Arkansas STC chapter elections

Only chapter members in good standing may make nominations. Student members may not serve as officers. You may nominate yourself. The slate will be announced at the March chapter meeting. Elections will be held at the April chapter meeting (ballots may be returned at the meeting or mailed). Chapter officers serve from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009.

Here are the responsibilities of the officers:

President:

The president presides over chapter meetings and is responsible for all chapter operations. The president heads the chapter's administrative council (the officers and committee managers), assigns duties to other officers, helps to formulate chapter policies, appoints the newsletter editor, helps to develop topics for chapter meetings and events, makes the chapter reports to the region 5 director-sponsor, and (optionally) writes articles and columns for the newsletter.

Vice President:

The vice president plans the chapter's schedule of meetings, finds meeting places, helps formulate chapter policies, coordinates with other officers to keep the chapter's activities running smoothly, and substitutes for the president during her/his absence.

Secretary:

The secretary takes minutes at the chapter's administrative council meetings, records member and guest attendance at meetings, helps to formulate chapter policies, and helps to develop topics for chapter meetings.

Treasurer:

The treasurer maintains the chapter's checking account, makes deposits and pays invoices, keeps detailed records of all the chapter's financial transactions, prepares chapter finance reports as needed, helps to develop topics for chapter meetings, and prepares and files the chapter's annual

financial report to the STC national headquarters.

Nominating Committee:

The nominating committee solicits nominations for the following year's elections, conducts the election, and oversees the tellers who count the ballots for the election. The nominating committee must contain at least two members of the local chapter.
