The Arkansas Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) will meet on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at UALR's ETAS 282 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. You should be able to park in Lot 8 on Saturday. The gate is usually open on weekends.
(For campus maps, see http://ualr.edu/www/features/map/ -- the building is near the 28th street side of campus, marked "ETAS Cybercollege" on the maps.)
Robert Blake of Candy Bouquet International will speak about search engine marketing (SEM) techniques. Using SEM methods, writers and web designers can increase the visibility of their company's website, causing it to appear higher in the result rankings of Google and other search engines. Businesses are now scrambling to hire marketing firms specializing in SEM or to hire a full time person in-house to make sure their websites appear high enough in search engine listings. Technical writers already have many of the key skills needed to do SEM -- in this presentation, you can learn to apply the writing skills you already have to attract more visitors to your site.
Robert will address the following topics:
--Generating and optimizing content for your web site
--Writing for wikis
--Understanding RSS feeds
--How to spot effective keywords
Robert Blake is the IT Director at Candy Bouquet International, Inc. and has a bachelor's degree in Professional and Technical Writing from UALR. He has over seven years experience working with internet-related technologies.
The public is invited. There is no admission charge.
